For The Love Of The Game
Play ball!Part of dedicating my life to skiing is being able to find balance and enjoy things outside of skiing. One of the great things about my teammates in Quebec is the fun that we all like to have after the hard work of training is over.
One of the best times I have had in this young training season was the other night when we got together to battle for the World Series of CNEPH!
After spending my first week in Quebec rounding up baseball equipment, we finally had enough gloves and jersey’s to take the field. With two hard workouts in Quebec City, in the morning and early afternoon, finished we came together for a barbeque and then headed to the field, in St. Ferreol Les Neiges, to play ball!
An epic battle ensued with the lead changing often in the high scoring affair. The blue team (me, Dave N, Phil, Fred) rallied from a five run deficit with big home runs from Dave and Phil and some clutch RBI’s from Fred and I. With darkness setting in we were hoping that the 8 run lead, we had built, would be enough to hold off the white team of, Len, Alex, Dave G, and Nish. A flourish of hits ensued as the White team gritted their teeth and clawed back into the game. As the light was all but gone and fielding was nearly impossible our game came to an end with the score deadlocked at 17.
With the trophy still undecided we will need to have a rematch to see who is the champion. Even though no one was the winner we all had a great time. It is fun times like this that help build the camaraderie that leads to the unbelievable team spirit which we have on the CNEPH. Even though our skill on the baseball field is nowhere near that of our ski racing, it was a great night enjoyed by all.
With the game over we all headed home and rested up to get back to our real life meeting again the following morning to run and climb Mont saint Anne.
